This week I received a picture in an email from my brother. The picture read,
Dear Optimist, Pessimist, and Realist,
While you guys were busy arguing about the glass of water, I drank it!
Through the years I’ve been a bit apologetic for being an opportunist. To be honest most of my businesses are based on opportunity instead of strategy. The reality is that most zigzag and boot-strap businesses require that we start at the opportunistic level. This is no reason to hang our heads or be embarrassed or apologetic. Look for the lowest piece of hanging fruit, be aware of the opportunities all around you, and take it! I’ve discovered through the years that when all is said and done more is usually said than done. The thing about us opportunistic individuals is that we are doers.
Most people think that you have to do everything right to succeed. It’s more important to do the right things than to do everything right. Zigzagging is an art form. It is learning to prioritize and focus on the big impactful items in our life that will truly move the ball. There’s no way that we can get everything done while in bootstrap mode. The key to success is picking the right things to do and then doing them.
Thank you Brett for sending me that photo. And this Opportunist has indeed drunk the glass of water multiple times while the Optimist, Pessimist, and Realist were discussing it.
